David joined the team in August 2012 and a key part of his role is focused on the 2014 Ryder Cup at Gleneagles. This involves creating and implementing a PR and communications plan in the two years leading up to the event and alongside partners and stakeholders including the Scottish Government, Ryder Cup Europe and The Gleneagles Hotel.
In addition to the 2014 Ryder Cup David also works on Scotland’s portfolio of other major golf events including The Open Championship, The Scottish Open, Scottish Hydro Challenge, Scottish Senior Open and the Ladies Scottish Open.
As well as being involved in the golf events side of the business, David’s role also straddles the wider VisitScotland tourism remit and as such is the key contact for golf-related media across the globe looking for information on, or to visit, Scotland as The Home of Golf.
Prior to joining EventScotland David worked as equipment editor for Today’s Golfer, the UK’s best-selling golf publication, for three years. Earlier on his career he was news editor with leading press and picture agency Deadline where he cultivated a number of key contacts across Scottish and UK newsdesks. He also has extensive PR experience with The Holyrood Partnership in Edinburgh where he worked with a number of high-profile clients including VisitScotland, Scottish Water and the Care Commission. In 2005 he was named the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) Young Communicator of the Year in Scotland.
