Mark works with a range of partners across the international cultural and sporting event portfolios to develop existing events in the calendar and bring major events to Scotland. This includes the successful bid for Glasgow to be a host city in the UEFA EURO 2020 football championships and securing a package of 4 European and World Curling Championships between 2016 - 2020. Mark works with partners across the UK through the eventIMPACTS project to define the many impacts which events have and to provide industry standard measurements. Additionally Mark led the five years of the Games for Scotland programme, a Legacy 2014 initiative and led event support and stakeholder management in the Year of Natural Scotland 2013.
Prior to joining EventScotland Mark was Tourism Development Manager at Liverpool City Council where he was a member of the team that delivered the successful European Capital of Culture 2008 programme and worked on major event bidding. Previously Mark was employed at City of Edinburgh Council where he had responsibility for festival and event delivery and measurement and in tourism action planning. Mark holds an MBA from Edinburgh Napier University where he specialised in the marketing of festivals and events.
