The West End Festival is once again producing a major community event to mark Scotland’s Patron Saint, St Andrew. After last year’s successful inaugural event, the procession will once again take to the streets of the west end of Glasgow, with a river of fire provided by hundreds of people carrying torches past the iconic places of the west end, including the Botanic Gardens, Byres Road, the University of Glasgow and the Kelvingrove Art Galleries.
Forming up at the top of Queen Margaret Drive, passing down Byres Road and finishing up in the Kelvingrove Park area, the parade will be led by two pipe bands. At the start the participants will be entertained by fire dancers, and at the end there will be music and fire dancers, not to mention food and drink. The celebrated Glasgow actor David Hayman will lead the parade and any proceeds from the sale of torches will go to his children’s focused charity, Spirit Aid.
