Winter Traditions at the Scottish Storytelling Centre

Edinburgh
Culture

The Scottish Storytelling Centre delivers an inclusive celebration of winter traditions, across generations, cultures and societies, from St Andrew’s Day to Burns Night.

Fisherman's Feast, Sailor's Rest’ on St. Andrew’s Night serves tasty fish and chips with a feast of tales and songs, celebrating the contribution of wanderers, migrants and exiles to Scotland’s national story. ‘Play in a Day: The Burdies’ showcases interactive folk traditions, acknowledging the death and rebirth of a new year, with opportunities for participants to perform. ‘Supper with Burns’ is a seasonal favourite with Burns' stories, song and lore served alongside a delicious 3-course Scottish dinner.

Connecting the old and new through song and dance, there’s fun for all the family with three seasonal Family Ceilidhs, starting with the ‘Italian & Scottish Ceilidh’, fusing two folk traditions together, plus other opportunities for all to rejuvenate midwinter traditions.
