Mining the Past, Facing the Future

A great day out for all the family will be guaranteed in 2018 at the National Mining Museum! Celebrating the Year of Young People, the 5 star, award winning visitor attraction will put on a great programme of activities and events for Mining the Past, Facing the Future.

Creating their first ever youth panel, young people will be the voice of the museum, planning and organising their very own exciting exhibition and event for young and young at heart audiences. Other highlights include The Story of Coal – a time travelling tour by young people, for young people and a Junior Brass Band Competition, showcasing young talent from across Scotland.

Following a Co-Design approach, young people are a driving force in shaping, developing and implementing all events for the Year of Young People 2018.
