The Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) is the longest continually running film festival in the world and screens over 300 films all over Edinburgh. Over the years the event has hosted icons of cinema, like Gene Kelly, Cary Grant, Marlene Dietrich, Clint Eastwood and Sean Penn. From 2008, the Festival is now being held in June rather than August, defining itself as a film-driven event - the Sundance of Europe perhaps - to rebuild its pre-eminence in the European festival calendar.
