With The Open having last been held at St Andrews in 2010, the Championship returns to this historic venue for the 29th time in its long history. During that time, some of the greatest players in the sport’s history have won The Open at the Home of Golf. World number one McIlroy will return to St Andrews as defending Champion after his two-shot victory at Royal Liverpool.
Scotland’s regular hosting of the event is part of a 10-year investment by EventScotland which will see the Championship played in the Home of Golf every second year until 2019.
