Orkney International Science Festival


One of the world’s oldest and most varied science festivals, bringing speakers and audiences from around the world for seven days packed with more than 60 events, with a concert in the 12th-century St Magnus Cathedral and a traditional ceilidh. Topics this year include Exploring Mars and Venus, The Shores of Titan, Knots in Physics, Maxwell’s Waves, Einstein’s Universe, The Enchantress of Numbers, and Prof. Peter Higgs In Conversation. You can find out about archaeoastronomy and ancient sheep, light shows and laser demonstrations, the science of sleep and the scope of stardrives – plus local food and drink.
