The British Mountaineering Council have successfully bid for and won the IFSC Climbing World Youth Championship in 2010 (for ages 12-18). The event will be held at Edinburgh's International Climbing Arena in Ratho. The EICA is the largest indoor climbing arena in the world, showcasing climbing at local, national and international levels. It is recognised as a world-class indoor climbing venue.
The Championship will include two traditional disciplines in sport climbing competitions - Lead climbing and Speed climbing. Lead climbing tests the agility and stamina of the athlete on a climbing route. Speed climbing tests two athletes against each other in a race up a wall on identical routes. Live scoring will be available through the IFSC website. Other activities and entertainment will take place during the event to draw spectators.
