The EventScotland Sustainable Sport and Event Toolkit

The Sustainable Sport and Event Toolkit (SSET) is a project initiated by the Vancouver Organising Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC) and the International Academy of Sports Science and Technology (AISTS) in Lausanne. It is currently being developed with the assistance of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), European Athletics, EventScotland, the City of Lausanne and numerous other partners.

The aim of the project is to give event organisers the tools required to incorporate sustainability in their work and to plan and deliver sustainable events.

NB: The SSET wiki provided by EventScotland is only available to event organisers managing events in Scotland.  This is a result of the agreement between EventScotland and the AISTS.  Events outwith Scotland can still access the SSET wiki for a fee by visiting www.sustainable-sport.org.

What is the SSET?

SSET integrates the management and sustainability practices recommended by the following:

• Olympic Movement Agenda 21

• IOC Guide on Sport, Environment, and Sustainable Development

• ISO 14001-14006 on Environmental Management Systems and ISO 26000 on Social Responsibility (ISO - International Organisation for Standardisation)

• BSI 8900-8901 on Sustainable Event Management (BSI - British Standards Institute)

• GRI G3 Sustainable Reporting Guidelines (GRI - Global Reporting Initiative)

• SMRS (Vancouver 2010 Sustainability Management and Reporting System)

Who is the SSET for?

The EventScotland SSET is available to events organisers in Scotland and to EventScotland partners based outside of Scotland but involved in delivering events in Scotland. Although developed in a sporting context, the toolkit is relevant and accessible for both cultural and sporting events organisers.

What is the SSET wiki?

The wiki platform is an interactive online version of the SSET and is used to provide resources to support the development and implementation of a sustainability strategy. The wiki database starts out with resources from various sports events and over time examples from Scottish events organisers in a sporting and cultural context will be accumulated. Organisers have the opportunity to download existing resources as well as to upload new documents or case studies they have found useful for other users to draw on.

How do I get started?

If you would like to access the Wiki then please fill out the registration form below. You do not need to register to access the pdf version of SSET, however access to the online interactive version via the wiki is restricted to organisers in Scotland and EventScotland partners delivering events in Scotland. We will verify your details and a username and password will be emailed to you.
