The Year of Young People 2018 sought to drive genuine collaboration across a range of sectors and interests and celebrate yet another of Scotland’s greatest assets – our children and young people.
The year was a great opportunity to celebrate the amazing talents and achievements of young people in Scotland. As part of this, the 2018 Themed Year provided a unique opportunity to develop a high impact, celebratory events programme that put young people at the centre of its development and delivery, creating new and valuable experiences for young Scots and their families and visitors.
More information on the Year can be found at yoyp2018.scot.

Open Event Fund
EventScotland invited the events and festivals sector across Scotland to apply for support through its Year of Young People 2018 Open Event Fund.
The Year of Young People 2018 Open Event Fund was designed to support proposals that will provide an events programme created especially for 2018. Through this funding opportunity, EventScotland sought exciting proposals from both new and existing events taking place in Scotland during 2018, that would capture the imagination, resonate strongly with the objectives for the year and provide strong opportunities for celebration, engagement and high levels of participation.
The Open Event Fund closed on Monday 12 June 2017.
Create18 gave young people across Scotland the opportunity to create and host innovative events in their community, and to bring the Year of Young People 2018 to life. Developed by EventScotland and Young Scot, the funding programme was open to groups of three or more young people, aged 8-26. The fund was administered by Young Scot and decisions were made by a panel of young people with support from Young Scot and EventScotland.
Planning and delivering your event with young people
From the logo to the website, the Year of Young People was co-designed with young people right from the start, and we wanted to ensure that co-design continues.
The below Top Tips document was aimed at event organisers to be read alongside the Co-design Blueprint. It highlighted some key things you may not have considered to help you connect with and involve young people in the design and delivery of your event. This document also contained some guidance on policies and procedures around working with and protecting young people.
The Partner Programme was a non-funded opportunity to align your event with the year and benefit from potential inclusion in VisitScotland promotional activity.
