European Curling Championships a success

Although neither of the Scottish teams went home with medals, the 2009 Le Gruyère European Curling Championships, held in Aberdeen in December were considered an outstanding success.

With 51 teams from 30 nations taking part, this was the largest international championships event of the curling year, and everyone involved was full of praise for the smooth organisation, excellent playing conditions and warm welcomes that all the teams in Aberdeen were given.

Eventually, Germany’s Andrea Schoepp won her seventh European title, beating Switzerland in the final, and Sweden’s Niklas Edin made a triumphant debut in the men’s final, with Switzerland picking up silver in that event too.
