Scottish Stage of The Tour of Britain to kick off in the Borders

The Tour of Britain, the UK’s largest professional cycling event and the country’s biggest live sporting event, will this year kick off its Scottish stage in the Scottish Borders it was announced today, May 5, 2009. 

The race will take place over eight days from Saturday, September 12 to Saturday, September 19 with Stage Three starting from Peebles on Monday, September 14.  The Tour of Britain is one of Britain’s most famous annual sporting events and see’s 96 riders from 16 teams cycling over 750 miles for victory.   

The event has been secured for the South of Scotland through a partnership of EventScotland, the national events agency, Scottish Borders Council and Dumfries and Galloway Council

Paul Bush, Chief Operating Officer at EventScotland, said: “Scotland has a reputation as one of the finest cycling destinations in the world and EventScotland has cultivated that reputation through a portfolio of world class cycling events.  From the Mountain Bike World Cup in Fort William to a stage of the UK’s biggest professional cycling event; the Tour of Britain to our future bid to host the UCI Track World Cup to in 2012 / 2013, EventScotland continues to support and develop cycling in Scotland.”
