The Scottish Hydro Challenge will be staged at the magnificent Macdonald Spey Valley Golf Course in Aviemore until at least 2011 after Macdonald Hotels and Resorts signed a two-year extension to the existing agreement.
The two-year deal ties in with EventScotland’s long-term commitment to the Challenge Tour and Scottish Hydro’s title sponsorship of the event, which was won by a Scot for the first time last year when Edinburgh resident Jamie McLeary triumphed by two shots from subsequent Challenge Tour Rankings and Omega Mission Hills World Cup winner Edoardo Molinari of Italy.
This year’s event will again receive a crucial £150,000 investment from EventScotland, the national events agency, as part of its ongoing support of The European, Challenge, Senior and Ladies European Tours ahead of The 2014 Ryder Cup at Gleneagles.
Paul Bush OBE, Chief Operating Officer at EventScotland, said: “The Scottish Hydro Challenge provides a valuable platform for aspiring young golfers to gain access to The European Tour and take the step up to the professional ranks. Scotland boasts some of the world’s finest golf courses, and also produces exceptional golfers who act as ambassadors for the nation around the world. Encouraging the next generation of professionals is vital to Scotland’s ongoing success as a golfing destination and its global reputation. EventScotland’s long-term commitment to support the Scottish Hydro Challenge reflects the important role this event plays in Scotland’s annual calendar of golf events.”
