The match ball for the final of the 127th Gibraltar Asset Management Melrose Sevens is being brought into the Greenyards by the Golden Lions Scottish Infantry Parachute Display Team.
The display team from The Royal Regiment of Scotland will be emphasising that this year’s tournament is also to acknowledge the bravery and sacrifice of British forces, with a number of fundraising initiatives for Poppyscotland and Hearts & Heroes, with the British Army’s sevens team entered into the main competition.
Paul Bush OBE, Chief Operating Officer at EventScotland, the national events agency which has provided funding for the Melrose Sevens for the past three years, said: “The Melrose Sevens is one of Scotland’s most popular annual sporting events and it never fails to deliver on sport or entertainment. Thousands of people attend this event each year from across the UK, Europe and the world and they come not only for the fantastic live rugby 7’s action but also for the festival atmosphere. Having the ball parachuted onto the pitch will add yet another fantastic spectacle to the game and will be a great way to kick off the 2010 Melrose Sevens tournament finale "
