Liz Yelling faces a formidable field of overseas opponents when making her international comeback at the Bupa Great Edinburgh Run on May 2.
Yelling winner of last month's Silverstone half marathon lines up against two former African world cross country champions, Florence Kiplagat and the legendary Derartu Tulu. Kiplagat of Kenya won the 2009 World Cross crown in Jordan while Ethiopia's Tulu has three gold medals under her belt from previous championship meetings. With Jessica Augusto from Portugal winner of the 2009 Bupa Great North Run also a confirmed entry the 10 kilometres race based around Holyrood Park is brimming with talent.
Paul Bush OBE, Chief Operating Officer at EventScotland, the national events agency, said: “The Great Edinburgh Run consistently attracts an impressive line up of world class, international athletes and this year is no exception. Olympic and Commonwealth medallists will compete against World Champions and Edinburgh will, without doubt, provide the perfect stage for the action."
The Bupa Great Edinburgh Run will welcome thousands of runners to Holyrood Park, the new start and finish of the 10km city centre event on the morning of Sunday 2nd May.
The event will be televised live on channel five from 10am – 11.30am and there will be an hours highlights programme on BBC2 Scotland at 7pm on the evening of the event.
The day also includes the Bupa Junior and Mini Great Edinburgh Run, which is suitable for youngsters aged 3 – 14 years.
