Lord Sebastian Coe, Chairman of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, has lent his support for Glasgow 2014’s “Sport Your Trainers” campaign as he went on a tour of the Velodrome and NISA (National Indoor Sports Arena) construction site in the East End of Glasgow.
The national “Sport Your Trainers” day, Monday 14th March, will encourage everyone from business leaders, schoolchildren and doctors to politicians, office workers and housewives to ditch their normal footwear and wear their trainers for the day in support of the Commonwealth Games.
“Sport Your Trainers” will be held annually on Commonwealth Day, for the next three years, with information available from www.glasgow2014.com, where there are promotional posters to download for your place of work. All those planning to participate in the campaign are asked to visit the site and click the “I support Sport Your Trainers” tab.
Seb Coe said: “I’m proud to be supporting a Glasgow 2014 campaign that gets people fitter and more connected to the Games. I hope to see thousands of you at London 2012 events, both in Glasgow and in London. Hopefully wearing trainers for just one day will spur you on to do more, even if it’s just running for the bus, or cycling to work instead of getting the bus at all!
“Glasgow 2014 is only around the corner, with just over three years to go until the Opening Ceremony. It’s going to be an outstanding event that will bring the eyes of the world to Glasgow, and I can’t wait.”
