Dumfries and Galloway Arts Festival will be storming through the region in a flurry of drama, dance, literature, music, film and visual arts from 20 – 29 May in venues across Dumfries and Galloway and includes an eclectic array of renowned and international performers.  Tickets go on sale on Saturday 16 April, go to www.dgartsfest.com  for more information.

Some of the highlights of this varied and exciting programme are as follows:

Liz Lochhead – The recently appointed Scotland’s “MAKER”, the national poet, Liz Lochhead is famed for her warmth and humanity. She never fails to truly connect with her audience. Liz manages to bridge the gap between the literary and the popular with her lively, witty takes on modern life and relationships, particularly her poems on the lot of modern women.

21 May, Theatre Royal Dumfries

The Great Big Gilbert and Sullivan Show - This year’s Gala performance is an incredibly colourful and wonderful affair which can’t fail to make you smile. The performance showcases highlights from many favourite Gilbert and Sullivan Operas including The Mikado, The Gondoliers and The Pirates Of Penzance.

Lockerbie: Unfinished Business - Jim Swire’s on-going struggle to find the truth is examined in David Benson’s hard-hitting and compelling political theatre with international relevance.

26 May, Theatre Royal, Dumfries and 28 May, Buccleuch Centre, Langholm

Charles Jencks - An audience with the renowned architect of the Garden of Cosmic Speculation one of the most original and highly praised contemporary gardens. Jencks will be discussing his latest book Universe in the Landscape and explaining the complex cosmic and historical metaphors underlying his work, including new projects in his own garden near Dumfries, as well as the award winning Landform Ueda outside the Gallery of Modern Art in Edinburgh.
