The MOBO Awards will be returning to Scotland’s biggest city for this year’s ceremony at Glasgow’s SECC on October 5th. Following the phenomenal success of relocating the awards to Glasgow two years ago, the MOBO Awards in association with Lebara Mobile is set to take the city by storm once again this autumn.
Launched in 1996, by founder and CEO Kanya King, the MOBO Awards were the first in Europe to celebrate urban music. In its 16 year history, the MOBO Awards has undoubtedly played an instrumental role in elevating black music and culture to mainstream popular status in the UK and is proud to have played a significant part in launching the UK’s biggest and brightest urban acts over the years.
R’n’B Queen and MOBO Ambassador Alesha Dixon and MOBO Recommends rising star Yasmin had the pleasure of announcing this year’s awards host city of Glasgow.
The tickets for this year’s MOBO Awards will be available for purchase from Wednesday 20th July 2011 through www.mobo.com, priced from £29-£100 with exclusive fan packages available from £225.
Broadcast live on BBC Three, with highlights on BBC One and further coverage on BBC Radio 1 and BBC 1Xtra, the MOBO Awards consistently attract the largest prime time multicultural audience with access to millions of music fans in a growing number of countries worldwide. This audience has been able to enjoy some of the biggest names in music take to the MOBO stage, with appearances from industry power couple Jay-Z and Beyoncé, the Queen of Rock and Roll Tina Turner, longstanding icon Sade, US superstar Usher, chart dominator Rihanna and R’n’B power house Black Eyed Peas to name but a few.
