American R’n’B star Jason Derulo is today revealed as the co-host of this year’s MOBO Awards in association with Lebara Mobile which will be returning to Glasgow’s SECC on 5th October.
Jason Derulo made a big impression as soon as he burst onto the music scene in 2009 with his debut single Whatcha Say and he hasn’t looked back since racking up 17 million single sales worldwide. The singer songwriter from Miami, Florida went on to top the charts with his second single In My Head last year. He hit the top spot again for two weeks in July with Don’t Wanna Go Home taken from his new album Future History out next month along with his new single It Girl.
The Ridin’ Solo star won’t be going it alone on the night though as a glamorous female co-host will be keeping Derulo in check as they introduce a stellar line-up of performances from the likes of soul sensation Jessie J, UK Dubstep star Katy B and American R’n’B princess Alexis Jordan. Jason Derulo will also perform on the night, and many more live performances will be confirmed in the coming weeks.
The tickets for this year’s MOBO Awards are now available from www.mobo.com, priced from £29-£100 with VIP packages available from £390.
Today, MOBO also reveals it is shaking up the voting system by hosting one category exclusively on Facebook. From the 31st August, fans will be able to cast their vote for the Best Newcomer on www.facebook.com/moboofficial to ensure their favourite artist takes the title.
Fans will be able to cast their vote as often as once a day from a list of 10 nominees set to feature some of the hottest artists who have made their mark on the UK music scene in the past 12 months. The voting results will also be shown in real time on the Facebook page, giving fans a clear view of who is in the lead at any time which is sure to set the competition alight as fans rally behind their favourite artist. This new development is a first for a UK Awards ceremony, and something that the MOBO Organisation has been developing in partnership with digital agency Testify since 2010. The voting will remain open until the live broadcast of the MOBO Awards show on 5th October where the winner will be revealed. The remaining categories will be voted for by the public via MOBO.com to be revealed on 31st August.
