Bloggers Head To Scotland For Edinburgh's Blogmanay

Organisers of Edinburgh’s Hogmanay today announced the launch of the innovative Edinburgh’s Blogmanay project. Together with partners EventScotland, VisitScotland, Edinburgh Tourism Action Group (ETAG), Festivals Edinburgh, Haggis Adventures and Skyscanner, Edinburgh’s Hogmanay are hosting 21 travel bloggers from around the world to experience Edinburgh and Scotland as one of the world’s premier New Year destinations.

Influential travel bloggers from as far afield as the USA, Australia, Malaysia and Europe will be coming to Scotland and will be joined by members of the UK’s and Scottish travel blogging community. Blogmanay will not only provide a gateway to Scotland as a winter destination, but will also increase the worldwide social media footprint of Edinburgh’s Hogmanay and supporting partners. Using the #blogmanay on all relevant social media platforms and a dedicated microsite on the Edinburgh’s Hogmanay website – www.edinburghshogmanay.com/blogmanay - will enable social media users in Edinburgh and around the world to interact with and participate in this year’s Edinburgh’s Hogmanay celebrations.

The Bloggers will arrive in Edinburgh on 29 December to experience all the events in Edinburgh’s Hogmanay from 30 December to 1 January. The group will enjoy the ultimate Edinburgh’s Hogmanay experience before enjoying the very best hospitality and tourism experiences on a three day tour of Scotland in winter, hosted by Haggis Adventures. All overseas travel has been found on leading travel search site Skyscanner.

Pete Irvine, Artistic Director of Edinburgh’s ogmanay, said “We are delighted to be able to showcase Edinburgh and Edinburgh’s Hogmanay to this group, and to their worldwide audience. We know that they will have a fantastic time here in the home of Hogmanay, and return home with wonderful memories of Scotland as a must-visit winter destination. We hope that everybody who is joining us in Edinburgh for Hogmanay will take part in Blogmanay by using our hashtag (#blogmanay) and by posting their favourite photographs of Edinburgh’s Hogmanay to Instagram to win a fantastic trip to Edinburgh’s Hogmanay 2014.”All photographs of Edinburgh’s Hogmanay posted to Instagram using #blogmanay will be entered into a competition. The photographer who takes the winning image, which will be announced in January 2013, will win a VIP trip for two to Edinburgh’s Hogmanay 2014 and a three day tour of Scotland with Haggis Adventures.

Nick Finnigan, Edinburgh Tourism Action Group (ETAG) Member and Chair of the ETAG 2013 Conference commented: “ETAG brings together the wide range of businesses that make up Edinburgh’s diverse tourism sector, encouraging collaboration, innovation and strengthening Edinburgh’s position as a world class visitor destination. Edinburgh’s Blogmanay captures this spirit perfectly and we are thrilled to be supporting this initiative. #blogmanay will showcase Edinburgh and its Hogmanay celebrations internationally across social media platforms and we would encourage local businesses, residents and visitors to get involved.”

A new Edinburgh’s Hogmanay App is also being launched as part of the Blogmanay project. The app provides users with live event information, maps of event arenas and programme information, a ‘find my friend’ function and the ability to throw the dice to choose their next destination for Your Lucky Day on 1 January.

Edinburgh’s Hogmanay promises to kick off 2013 in some style. The three day Festival starts with a cast of thousands enjoying the Torchlight Procession on Sunday 30 December, and the celebrations continue with the World Famous Street Party and Concert in the Gardens on Monday 31 December where revellers will enjoy the very best in live music, from Simple Minds, The View, The Maccabees, Reverend and the Makers, Admiral Fallow and Lau, together with REW1ND3R – the biggest party . . . in years which will turn Princes Street into the world’s largest dancefloor. The evening culminates in the spectacular Midnight Fireworks from the ramparts of Edinburgh Castle and the world’s largest rendition of Auld Lang Syne.Other events on New Year’s Day include the return of the popular Edinburgh’s Dogmanay and the New Year’s Day Triathlon, both in Holyrood Park and Your Lucky Day – a whole festival in one afternoon.
