After months of preparation, EventScotland; part of VisitScotland presented its 2012 Events Conference - Scotland Prepares at Emirates Arena in Glasgow.
The day began with a fantastic performance from the Scottish Youth Theatre’s ‘Geordie’; introduced by one of Glasgow 2018’s young ambassadors Mahad Ahmed. The morning continued with a host of world-renowned speakers including Bill Morris, Director of Ceremonies for London 2012 and an insightful look into Event Tourism with Professor Don Getz. Lunch was served in the Velodrome featuring fine Scottish produce courtesy of Scottish Food & Drink. During the lunch guests were able to watch track cycling demonstrations courtesy of Scottish Cycling’s performance squad.
Delegates then enjoyed a selection of four topic specific workshops to choose from led by guest speakers. The day ended with a closing speech from Paul Bush, who said “We can’t stand still over this exciting period. If we do, we risk being left behind”. And then entered our very special guest Nicola Benedetti who joined Dr Mike Cantlay, Chairman of VisitScotland for a Q&A session. Delegates were then invited for drinks and had the opportunity to network within the Emirates Arena.
EventScotland would like to thank Glasgow Life, Scottish Youth Theatre, Scottish Food & Drink, Mahad Ahmed, all the speakers and all that attended the conference for making this event possible.
