Over £600,000 is set to be invested to support local communities across Scotland get involved in the build to the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
The Games for Scotland programme, which is run in partnership with EventScotland, will see events marking the countdown to 2014 take place in local authorities both this year and next.
The 2012 programme will be based on taster events of the 17 Commonwealth sports or dance events to encourage physical activity.
Minister for Commonwealth Games and Sport Shona Robison made the announcement while speaking at the Gearing Up for the Games conference at Dynamic Earth today.
Ms Robison was joined at the conference by former Olympic, Commonwealth, European and World champion triple jumper Jonathan Edwards who was there as a member of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Organising Committee.
