Some of Scotland’s best known and less well known tourism business will go toe to toe this November following the completion of VisitScotland’s inaugural regional Thistle Awards across the country.
The last two weeks have seen ceremonies take place in Aberdeen, Stirling and Glasgow to seek out the area’s leading tourism businesses. With the winners now in place, these businesses will go forward to the national ceremony this November.
VisitScotland Chairman Mike Cantlay, who has attended every ceremony since the launch of the awards 20 years ago, said: “I’d like to congratulate all those businesses who have made it this far. With consultation with the industry, the format was altered to include new regional events in an attempt to capture more businesses who want to celebrate their achievements. These events have been a fantastic success, with businesses using the events to network as well as tips on best practice.”
“The Thistle Awards celebrate achievement across the tourism sector and the real diversity and scope of attractions that make Scotland a world class visitor destination. Following the refurbishment of the royal palaces at Stirling last summer to create an interactive visitor experience unlike anything currently available in the Scottish market, we are thrilled to have won the best visitor attraction award for the central/south east region and are looking ahead to taking part in the finals in November.”
The achievements of the major cultural and sporting events throughout Scotland were demonstrated by the fact that there were over 40 entries to the two event categories: Best Sporting Event and Best Cultural Event.
