Scotland’s national tourism organisation has today announced that the Kelvingrove Art Gallery in Glasgow will host the national final of the Scottish Thistle Awards for the first time on 9 November 2012.
The venue is a fitting setting in this the Year of Creative Scotland 2012 and further offers the chance to spotlight, promote and above all celebrate the country’s tourism strengths, on what is the showpiece event on the tourism calendar.
Malcolm Roughead, Chief Executive of VisitScotland said: “We’re delighted that we’ve been able to secure Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum for the final of the Scottish Thistle Awards in November. The venue offers grand surroundings in what is without doubt the flagship tourism event of the year, and is sure to be a fantastic celebration of Scotland’s most vital industry.
“In the Winning Years, Scotland is on the world stage like never before and so we must seize every opportunity to shine. Quality is key and the Scottish Thistle Awards recognise just how vital it is to make sure our tourism offering is as polished as it can be.”
Scott Taylor, Chief Executive of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, which is one of the sponsors of this year's Scottish Thistle Awards, commented: “It is fantastic news that the Scottish Thistle Awards are travelling West and we’re delighted that VisitScotland has chosen Glasgow as their home this year. It’s an extremely important night for the industry and we look forward to welcoming finalists and businesses from throughout Scotland to the grand setting of the city’s Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum.”
A change in format has seen businesses face regional heats in Glasgow, Aberdeen and Stirling this May, with the winners from these events going through to the national face-off with the winners from all regions at Kelvingrove in November.
For successful tourism businesses, it’s about much more than simply winning a trophy on the night - benefits of being awarded national winner status include receiving VisitScotland products to the value of £500. Plus all the regional finalists who entered the Tourism Entrepreneur category have already received the opportunity to get a free annual membership to the Entrepreneurial Exchange - Scotland’s leading organisation for ambitious growth oriented entrepreneurs*.
The Scottish Thistle Awards has also been working with the already successful Highlands and Island’s Tourism Awards (HITA) with their shortlisted finalists automatically progressing to represent the region at the final. Going forward, subsequent winners of HITA will continue to be entered in the Scottish Thistle Awards.
