Big Burns Supper Opening Show Cancelled

Big Burns Supper festival has regrefully had to cancel the Opening Show due to extreme weather conditions. At 3pm today Festival Director Graham Main, supported by the Board of Directors and Festival Partners, made the decision to cancel the show amid safety concerns caused by the severe winter weather, “We understand that the community will be very disappointed by this decision, as will the hundreds of local school children who have worked tirelessly for months preparing for the show, however the safety of audience and participants has to be our first priority and it is with this in mind that the decision has been made to cancel.”

Despite the disappointment, Mr Main reminded participants that they will still be able to enjoy a wide range of events with the rest of the festival in full swing. Festival director Graham Main commented, “All other festival events will go ahead as planned, and with 100 events taking place at 45 venues, there is still plenty to choose from. One of the main attractions at the festival is Rabbie Burns Spiegel Gardens, situated at the Old Market on the Whitesands, which will feature acts both big and small over the next few days, including Fiddler’s Bid, Eddi Reader and Dougie MacLean. There’s also a children’s tent full of nonstop free stuff for the kids, numerous food vendors to choose from, as well as all the other great shows taking place at venues across the town.”
