The programme for the week long 2013 Highland Perthshire Cycling Festival has been launched. Highland Perthshire Cycling (HPC), a community group who promote and develop cycling in Highland Perthshire, have put together a range of road and mountain bike events aimed at cyclists of all ages and abilities that will be held across the region from Saturday 4th to Saturday 11th of May.
Highlights of this year’s Festival include:
The Highland Perthshire Enduro: All the best bits from one area of Highland Perthshire in one ride. This mtb Enduro brings you lung puffing uphills, technical downhills, fast fire road, and above all the chance for a fun ride with your mates. The course is approx 58km long and there will be several timed stages, prizes and maybe even a party. Hold on to your helmets the first Highland Perthshire Enduro is here! Entries are now live via No Fuss Event’s website.
Highland Safaris Go Bike Day: Fun-filled Go Bike Day, from 10am until 4pm, is completely free to attend with a host of two-wheeled activities and events, for all ages and abilities.
Dunolly Bike Adventure Day: An exciting opportunity to spend the day exploring some of the best natural trails in the area with the expert guides at Dunolly Adventures.
Comrie Croft: Rides, skills sessions and BBQ’s are just some of things likely to be happening at Comrie Croft over the Festival.
Progression Bikes DH session: Your chance to try out the Uplift service for downhill mountain biking, for free! New to downhill? Not sure if the Uplift is worth it? Didn’t know it was there? This is your chance.
ByCycle: will be offering their Wednesday evening rides for those who would like to meet new cyclists, find a new route or just come along for a social ride. Rides take approximately 2 hours.
Getting bikes back to nature: an exciting guided xc ride on some of Highland Perthshire's great natural trails.
Locals ride: A group of local mountain bikers heading out on a sociable mtb ride near Aberfeldy.
Skinny Tyres - Tour of the Lochs: an evening guided road ride of 2 hours (approx 25 miles) from Dunkeld. Suitable for beginner/intermediate road riders with their own road bike.
Pump track and BBQ night: fancy a spin around a pump track then some time to chill with a burger and some tunes? This night is for you.
Film Night: this will be an evening of amateur films and a big feature film. The amateur films will come from you so if you ever wanted to make your own film about your favourite riding spot in the hills or think you've got the skills to put Danny Macaskill to shame then now's the time to show everyone! The BIG Day: as it says on the tin this is the BIG Day. A fun-filled, family day of cycling to round up the week. This year there will be a whole host of entertainment from cycling display teams, demos and try-outs to shopping opportunities, bouncy castles and more.
Highland Perthshire Cycling, who were awarded Cycle Friendly Community of the Year 2011/12 by Cycling Scotland, works collaboratively with many local groups, schools and businesses in the region to promote and enable more locals and visitors to cycle more often in Highland Perthshire. They run workshops, clubs, school activities and events to achieve this. The highlight of the year is the Highland Perthshire Cycling Festival.
