Visitors to these events spent some £24 million on food and drink in 2012 and this figure is projected to increase to almost £33 million in 2014 when Scotland will host the Homecoming, the Glasgow Commonwealth Games and the Ryder Cup.
With research showing that visitors to Scotland want to taste traditional Scottish dishes, regional specialities and fresh, locally sourced food, the events sector presents huge opportunities for Scottish food and drink producers—of all sizes—to drive additional sales, introduce their business to new customers, enhance their reputation and raise their profile.
The Event Ready Producers initiative from Scottish Enterprise has been launched to help food and drink companies make the most of this market demand and prepare for 2014.
The project offers one-to-one expert support to review readiness to supply events and provides tailored advice on areas including sales strategy, product and price propositions, marketing and service delivery. Up to 3.5 days business support is available to individual companies through the initiative.
