Early Bird Tickets On Sale for Badminton Scottish Open

CALLING all badminton fans. There's just a week to go before the end of BADMINTONscotland's Early Bird half-price ticket offer to next month's Scottish Open Grand Prix at Glasgow's Emirates Arena.

Scotland stars like London Grand Prix runner-up Kirsty Gilmour and former world silver medallists Robert Blair and Imogen Bankier will be competing at the third oldest Open tournament in world badminton from November 20-24.

They will be up against top players from all over the world as some of the best in badminton head for Glasgow to get a feel for the arena before next year's Commonwealth Games.

Tickets for the tournament are on offer at half price until next Sunday (October 20) so don’t miss out on this bargain opportunity to get the best seats at the best possible price.

The tournament, which has been elevated to Grand Prix status on the BWF tournament circuit, starts with qualifying rounds on the Wednesday along with the men's singles first round. From Thursday the tournament gets into full swing with all five events under way.

Grand Prix status could not have been achieved without the vital support of BADMINTONscotland's funding partners Glasgow City Council, Glasgow Life and EventScotland who between them have invested £750,000 into the Scottish Open Grand Prix over the next four years.

Anne Smillie, Chief Executive of BADMINTONscotland, said today: "You cannot run a successful event these days without strong support behind the scenes and the Scottish Open is no exception. We are once again indebted to Glasgow City Council, Glasgow Life and EventScotland for their continued support. We are fortunate that they have such a strong commitment to badminton."

Councillor Archie Graham, the Chair of Glasgow Life and Executive Member for the Commonwealth Games, said: “We’re excited about hosting the Scottish Open at the Emirates Arena, particularly as this will be the first Grand Prix event in Scotland. I have no doubt that five days of badminton action, featuring some of the world’s best players, will provide outstanding entertainment for all those attending.

“The Scottish Open will give us a taste of what fans can expect at next year's Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games."

Paul Bush OBE, Chief Operating Officer for EventScotland said: “Scotland is the perfect stage for events and with the Scottish Open Grand Prix we can expect to see some of the sport’s top names competing at the Emirates Arena.

“The event will undoubtedly put on a fantastic show for spectators, and with tickets starting from just £2 in the early-bird discount I am sure it will be appealing to both fans of the sport and newcomers alike.”

In a departure from previous years the finals will feature two matches in the Sunday morning session followed by the remaining three in the afternoon.

Under the Early Bird discount tickets start for as little as £2 for day one with a season ticket terrific value at just £7 - which means you can pop into the Emirates Arena any time you want throughout the five days of the tournament. This is an offer that's too good to miss but remember, from next Monday the tickets revert to full price.
