At the 2013 International Sports Event Management Awards in London last night (6 November), EventScotland was presented with bronze in the Outstanding Team Contribution category for projects delivered in 2012/13.
The prestigious award follows a packed year of events in Scotland including; The UCI Track World Cup; British Athletics Glasgow International Match; Tour of Britain; IRB Sevens World Series; The Open Championship; FINA Diving World Series; UCI Mountain Bike World Cup; 470 European Championships and The Women’s British Open.
Amongst this incredible portfolio of major sporting events, the team at EventScotland has also worked with partners to bid for and secure a further three major events for 2015 - the IPC Swimming World Championships; The European Eventing Championships; and The European Judo Championships.
Paul Bush OBE, Chief Operating Officer for EventScotland said: “Receiving bronze in this category recognises the hard work of our team over the past 12 months, but also the strength and depth of the Scottish events industry, which we are so proud to be part of. Scotland is the perfect stage for events, and looking back at the past year or portfolio has been up there with the best in the world.
“As we head towards 2014, when Scotland will welcome the world to the Commonwealth Games and The Ryder Cup it is exciting to know that our industry is in a strong position. Furthermore, with an ever growing programme of major events secured for 2015 and beyond we can be confident that Scotland will continue to raise the bar.”
