The Countdown to the Jim Clark Rally has started

Scotland's biggest motor rally event is now under two weeks away. Over the weekend from Friday 31st May to Sunday 2nd June nearly 300 cars and crews from all over the UK, Australia, Finland and Ireland, will descend on the Borders towns of Kelso and Duns for the annual Jim Clark Rally.

Counting towards 13 different national and regional championships catering for World Rally Cars, Group A and N cars, one-make series cars and clubman cars, plus the ever popular Historic rally cars from the 60s, 70s and 80s, there will be something for everyone.

This year’s event has received a huge entry, the biggest for over four years, with 268 crews entered for the three day event. That’s 268 drivers, 268 co-drivers and at least double the number of service crew members all heading for Berwickshire for a weekend of adrenalin fuelled motor sporting action. And that’s not counting friends and followers, event officials, 500 rally marshals and thousands of spectators.

Competitors in the British Rally Championship part of the event will contest stages on Friday evening and Saturday, while Sunday is reserved for the main Scottish Rally and regional championships where top local hope Euan Thorburn (Duns), fresh from victory on the Plains Rally in Wales last weekend, will compete head to head with arch rival, and four times Scottish Rally Champion, David Bogie (Dumfries).

Add in the likes of Mike Faulkner (Kirtlebridge), Jock Armstrong (Clarebrand), Barry Groundwater (Stonehaven) and the mercurial Quintin Milne (Aberdeen) and this lot will provide more bangs per buck than all the fireworks at the Olympic closing ceremony.  If rally fans are feeling rally-jaded come Saturday evening, then Sunday’s Jim Clark Reivers Rally will provide more get-up-and-go than a whole truck load of energy drinks.
