Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open secured through to 2020
VisitScotland will continue its support for the Scottish Open through to 2020 after a deal was reached between the European Tour, the Scottish Government and Aberdeen Asset Management to extend title sponsorship of the event for an additional three years.
The agreement, supported by the Scottish Government, provides a significant addition to the world-class golf events already secured for Scotland as it looks to build on the successful hosting of The 2014 Ryder Cup at Gleneagles.
There are already six Major Championships confirmed to take place in Scotland post 2014 across the men’s and ladies professional games, beginning with The Open Championship at St Andrews and the Ricoh Women’s British Open at Turnberry in 2015. The extension of support for the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open now means that at least one European Tour event is guaranteed to take place in Scotland every year through to 2020.
Mike Cantlay, chairman of VisitScotland, said: “We are delighted with Scotland’s extension of support for the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open and look forward to continuing the staging and promotion of top-class golf events through to at least 2020.
“Hosting world-class golf events not only reaffirms Scotland’s position as the Home of Golf, but delivers significant economic impact as well as substantial marketing opportunities to promote Scotland to worldwide audiences as a leading golf and tourism destination.”
