Golfers from far and wide, as well as local players, have been registering for the first-ever match between the St Andrews Community and The Rest of the World, which is being organised to mark St Andrew's Day.
In a friendly occasion that’s open to all golfers, players who live in St Andrews will be challenging all-comers from anywhere else in the world, with the event being played over the town's famous New Course on Sunday 30 November.
The match, which is being organised by St Andrews Partnership with the generous support of St Andrews Links Trust, forms part of the town's St Andrew’s Day Celebrations.
St Andrews will host a weekend packed with celebrations from 27 -30 November as part of Scotland's Winter Festivals - a programme of events supprted by EventScotland. For more information about the weekend visit www.standrewsdaycelebrations.com.
The Partnership's Chairman Jim McArthur said this week, “This will be a great chance to play at the Home of Golf in an informal, fun event - and all for a bargain entry fee! We would encourage both locals and visiting players to sign up without delay, because the 23 November closing date is fast approaching.”
He added, “Our event is designed to bring together the local golfing community with the many visitors who will be in St Andrews to enjoy the St Andrew's Day Celebrations being held from 27-30 November. We believe that St Andrews is ideally placed to become the leading venue for St Andrew's Day events around the world, which is why this new golf event purposely has an international outlook.”
The match will be played in a fourball, full handicap format (shotgun start) with a variety of prizes on offer. Single players or teams of two can enter.
