Capital Scotland Breakfast Show presenters Des and Jennie have been getting ready for the Glasgow European Judo Open at the Emirates Arena on October 4 with lessons from some Team Scotland Commonwealth Games Gold medallists. The presenters were put through their paces by Kimberley and Louise Renicks who will be competing at the event and by Euan Burton.

Des and Jennie visited Judo Scotland’s headquarters at Ratho near Edinburgh where they learned what to expect from a judo match before being taught everything from how to tie their belts to throws and holds they needed before taking on the Renicks sisters. You can hear how they got on during the Capital Scotland Breakfast Show on Monday 8 September.

5 Glasgow 2014 Gold Medal winners, 4 Silver and 3 Bronze Medallists will be part of the 26 strong Great Britain team which will compete at the Championships on Saturday October 4. Teams from all over the world will be in Glasgow for the biggest Judo only event in the UK in 2014.

All event and ticket information can be found at Tickets start from £5, and concessions are available to children aged 15 and under, senior citizens and disabled spectators. For further information please contact or please call 01509 631695.

Des said: “I was terrified when we were told we’d be facing Commonwealth Games Gold Medallists in a Judo match but we got some amazing hints and tips from some of the best Judoka in the world. I have a whole new appreciation for what it takes to be amongst Judo’s elite and will be cheering on the Renick sisters and the whole British team on October 4.”

The European Open Judo is a partnership between Glasgow Life, British Judo, Judo Scotland and EventScotland.
