A hamper full of goods from Moray and the surrounding area will be given to each of the 127 Pipe Bands competing at Piping At Forres, sponsored by Benromach Speyside Single Malt Whisky, to raffle or auction towards the costs of attending Pipe Band competitions.
As well as putting in many hours of practice, competing bands must pay for accommodation, food and transport which can mean considerable costs for bands, especially those who have ferry or air fares to pay. Even local bands have to meet the costs of transport and catering.
The companies who have contributed to this exclusive Piping At Forres Hamper include: Benromach Speyside Single Malt Whisky; Ashers of Nairn; Baxters of Fochabers; Gardiners of Scotland; Gordon & MacPhail; Hamlyn’s Oatmeal and Porridge Oats; Mackay’s jams; Nairn’s Oatcakes; Speyside Water; Johnstons of Elgin; Mackie’s of Scotland; Summer House Drinks; Deans Shortbread; Walkers Shortbread and Windswept Craft Beers.
Joanna Taylor, a Director of Forres Events Ltd, which runs the event as not-for-profit said: “This is a wonderful way of supporting the pipebands who make a considerable effort to be here and showcasing the great produce we have in Moray and the local area. We are very grateful to the companies who have contributed to the hamper and we hope the bands will take these hampers back home to raffle and use the money to come back to Forres on Saturday 24 June 2017.”
Paul Bush OBE, VisitScotland’s Director of Events, said: “Scotland is known the world-over for the quality of its food and drink offer, so it is terrific that all bands competing at Piping at Forres will leave with a wonderful hamper to contribute towards their fundraising efforts.
“This terrific gesture from some of Scotland’s most famous suppliers will help each band, including those who have travelled from far and wide, to cover some of their costs and we’re sure that this taste of Scotland will prove very popular with the eventual recipient.”
