The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) has announced today that the 2016 Davis Cup by BNP Paribas World Group semi-final tie between Great Britain and Argentina will take place at the Emirates Arena, Glasgow from 16-18 September 2016.
Ticket information will be released soon. Fans should follow @BritishTennis on twitter or keep their eye on lta.org.uk for all the latest news and ticket information.
The tie will be the fifth time the two nations have met in the competition, with Argentina winning the last three encounters. The previous meeting in Buenos Aires in 2008 saw the South Americans taking an unassailable 3-0 lead on the second day, closing out the tie 4-1.
The Emirates Arena holds fond memories for the British team. During the 2015 campaign the venue hosted two victorious ties for the team en route to lifting the trophy in Ghent in the final.
Paul Bush OBE, VisitScotland’s Director of Events, said: “I am delighted that we are today able to confirm the Davis Cup will be returning to Scotland in 2016, following two sensational matches at the Emirates Arena during the Aegon GB Davis Cup Team’s successful campaign last year.
“On both of those occasions, fans in Glasgow proved why Scotland is known the world-over as the perfect stage for events and were instrumental in spurring the team on to historic victories against the USA and Australia. With its electric atmosphere, the Emirates is a sensational sporting venue and here’s hoping it remains a happy hunting ground for Great Britain against Argentina in September.”
Leon Smith, Captain of the Aegon GB Davis Cup Team, said: "I will never forget the unbelievable reception we got in the stadium and from everyone in the city. The fans are what make the Davis Cup so special and I know the players will be thrilled to get back in front of that crowd again."
