The TOTAL BWF World Championships is in full swing but BADMINTONscotland is already preparing for the next major event at Glasgow’s Emirates Arena as tickets for the Scottish Open Grand Prix go on sale today.
As part of the Badminton World Federation Grand Prix series, the Scottish Open is the third oldest Championships in world badminton and features some of the top international athletes year on year.
Last year’s tournament saw Scotland star Adam Hall and his partner Peter Mills progress all the way through to the final of the men’s doubles event - where they narrowly lost out to the Danish pairing of Mathias Christiansen and David Daugaard.
That victory meant three titles for Denmark, after they also triumphed in the men’s and women’s singles events, and two titles for Malaysia, who had success in the women’s and mixed doubles.
This year’s tournament will be held from November 22-26, with a 50 per cent early bird discount on tickets available until October 22.
Anne Smillie, Chief Executive of BADMINTONscotland, said: “We have seen some fantastic badminton at the Emirates Arena during the TOTAL BWF World Championships, and I am confident we will see more of the same when the Scottish Open returns later in the year.
“The Scottish Open is always a brilliant tournament to watch with some of the world’s best players descending on our city, and I for one can’t wait for the action to unfold.
“We hope that both fans and players alike are buoyed to return to Glasgow for the Scottish Open Grand Prix, after the resounding success of the World Championships.”
