Running for three weeks this October with shows from 6pm, Quest for Oz is the brand new huge immersive augmented reality adventure in Drummohr Woods from the makers of 2017’s Dragons of Drummohr.
Combining storytelling and adventure, Quest for Oz is the perfect family night out for the October Half Term.
Vision Mechanics have transformed the woods into the Land of Oz, filling it with huge light installations, sculptures, nooks and crannies and things to discover. Audiences will meet all the well-loved (and loathed) characters of the Wizard of Oz books, including Glinda The Good and Mombi the Blue Witch of the North, Dr Wonder and the Marvellous Professor Marvel.
The Wizard of Oz has tasked audiences with finding the lost golden bricks of the tattered Yellow Brick Road and saving Oz. Using the Quest for Oz augmented reality app, audiences will meet the Lion, the Tin Man and the Scarecrow who will give you bricks – but watch out for the bad witch who might steal them.
As well as the task at hand, audiences will be invited to experience the Monkey Gate, the Carnival of Dreams, step into the Bubble Garden of Glinda the Good, lose themselves in the Mind Maze, test their courage in the Blue Witch Badlands, and get a magical makeover in the Oz Salon!
This is Vision Mechanics’ most ambitious project yet, combining storytelling, huge light installations, and innovative augmented reality. In conjunction with Quest for Oz and celebrating Scotland’s Year of Young People 2018 is Sing for Oz, a musical outreach programme for P7 classes in East Lothian which ran from 3-14 September. The results of these workshops feature as part of Quest for Oz’s spectacular installation The Monkey Gate, a ten meter projection of the face of a flying monkey, made up of thousands of smaller flying monkey faces.
Quest For Oz is supported by Creative Scotland, East Lothian Council and EventScotland and is an event within the Year of Young People Partner Programme.
Audiences will meet at the Wallyford Park & Ride, 33 The Loan, Wallyford, Musselburgh EH21 8BU, where the free Emerald City Shuttle Bus will be there to take them to the world of Oz.
Paul Bush OBE, Director of Events for VisitScotland, said: “EventScotland is delighted to be supporting Quest for Oz, through its National Events Programme. This fantastical outdoor show, expertly combines augmented reality, theatre, sculptures and light installations with Scotland’s natural assets to create a memorable experience for all ages. In Scotland’s Year of Young People 2018, it is especially great to see East Lothian’s talented young people helping to bring the wonderful Land of Oz to life through the Sing for Oz project.”
