Advance ticket sales for The 147th Open at Carnoustie have soared to unprecedented levels – with some ticket categories having already sold out four months ahead of the Championships.
The R&A have revealed that ticket sales are ahead of any previous Open to be staged at Carnoustie, with the famous links have last staged the Championships in 2007.
Tens of thousands of spectators are expected to descend on the Angus venue to watch the best players in the world compete for the title of Champion Golfer of the Year with Weekend Bundle Ticket and Twilight Ticket categories having already sold out in addition to some hospitality categories.
Fans are being encouraged to secure their place at The Open by taking advantage of early season pricing ahead of the 30 April deadline.
Paul Bush, Director of Events, said: “I’m delighted to see ticket sales performing so strongly so far out from the Championships which is a testament to both The Open as a Major Championship and Carnoustie Golf Links as a world-class venue.
“I’m looking forward to seeing tens of thousands of spectators attending The 147th Open in July, many of whom will have travelled from out with Scotland and from overseas to attend.”
Johnnie Cole-Hamilton, Executive Director – Championships at The R&A, said, “We know there is great excitement at the prospect of The Open returning to Carnoustie with so many of the top players expected to contend. I would encourage fans to take advantage of the fantastic early season savings available for the remaining tickets to secure their place at one of the world’s great sporting events.
“The stage is set for a true festival of golf with Jordan Spieth defending the Claret Jug against what is sure to be a determined challenge from the world’s best players.”
In Scotland’s Year of Young People there is also a strong focus on promoting The Open to a youthful audience with youth tickets available for under-25s for as little as £35 on Championship days. There is also free access to The Open Camping Village located at Carnoustie High School for under-25s where more than 3,000 spectators have already taken advantage of free accommodation for young people and low-cost options for adults.
