Tickets on-sale for European Athletics Indoor Championships Glasgow 2019

Tickets for the European Athletics Indoor Championships 2019, one of the biggest events on next year’s athletics calendar, are now on-sale via the event’s website -

The championships will take place at the Emirates Arena between 1 – 3 March 2019 and tickets for the three-day event start from £5.

Returning to Glasgow after 29 years, the European Athletics Indoor Championships will once again put Glasgow and Scotland on the map as a world-class destination for international sporting events. More than 600 athletes from over 45 countries and an anticipated 18,000 spectators are expected to attend over the course of the three days.

Over the years Scotland has produced a number of European Indoor champions and one who hopes to continue this trend is Scottish runner Andrew Butchart, who in 2017 had a record-breaking indoor season breaking the men’s 3000 metre record at the New Balance Grand Prix in Boston in January before going on to break the record again 2 weeks later at the Millrose Games in New York. Andrew holds the record in a time of 7 minutes 42 seconds.

Currently ruled out of this month’s Commonwealth Games in Australia because of a foot injury, Andrew has his eyes firmly set on next season and a European Championships in his home country: “It’s so exciting to have the European Indoors coming to Scotland next year, I’ve always wanted to race these Championships. To be able to compete in-front of a home crowd will make it even more special!"

Over 600 athletes are expected to attend from over 45 countries, with the anticipated number of spectators being 18,000 over the three-day event.

Paul Bush OBE, Director of Events, said: “The European Athletics Indoor Championships 2019 will kick off a stellar year of major international sporting events for Scotland. With The Solheim Cup 2019 and the LEN European Short Course Swimming Championships to follow and building on the legacy of previous events including the 2014 Commonwealth Games, 2015 World Gymnastics Championships and the Glasgow 2018 European Championships, Scotland really is the perfect stage for sporting events.

“It is going to be a fantastic three days of competition not to be missed so get in early and secure your tickets for one of the best sporting events in 2019.”

Billy Garrett, Director of Sport and Events at Glasgow Life and Co-Chair of the Glasgow 2019 Steering Committee, said: “It is an honour to be hosting the European Athletics Indoor Championships in 2019, Glasgow and Scotland will once again find itself at the forefront of the athletics world. The three-day event is sure to further enhance Glasgow’s world-renowned reputation as a sporting city that can deliver first class international events time and time again.”

Cherry Alexander MBE, Major Events Director at British Athletics and Sport Director for Glasgow 2019, said: “Glasgow has such a rich heritage of athletics with the Glasgow International Match stretching back to 1988, and with a world-class venue at its disposal in the Emirates Arena, I am certain we are in for another magnificent championships come March 2019.

“This is a championships that many of Scotland’s stars are sure to be targeting given the ferocity of support they receive when competing in Glasgow. Over the coming weeks I’m sure that many of those same athletes will make themselves heroes over at the Commonwealth Games, which is sure to continue building the excitement ahead of next year’s championships.”

Glasgow and Scotland continue to be a hub for major sporting events with the city being at the centre of the inaugural multi-sport European Championships taking place in August 2018. Scotland will welcome over 3000 competitors from six sports – aquatics, cycling, rowing, triathlon, gymnastics and golf – while the European Athletics Championships take place at the same time in Berlin.

The Emirates Arena, built for the 2014 Commonwealth Games, has a capacity of 5000 and is one of the largest indoor sports venues in Europe hosting a diverse range of sporting events throughout the year.
