    Music gets a Green Boost

Julie’s Bicycle, the organisation that helps the music industry to reduce its carbon emissions, has launched an online tool to help festivals measure, analyse, report and act on their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, as part of their post-event review.

The IG (Industry Green) Tools are available free of charge to any creative sector business in the UK, and provide a customised, tailored approach to measuring and recording annual GHG emissions for festivals and outdoor events, venues and office spaces.

The Greener Festival Awards scheme recommends its applicants make use of the IG Tool for festivals if they need help or guidance in measuring their carbon impacts – a key awards criterion.

Julie’s Bicycle has IG Tools in development to help measure GHGs from touring, recording studios, retail, distribution, and manufacturing facilities.  Continuing updates are available online at: www.juliesbicycle.com

Mother's Ruin is a tonic for Bella Dance Fans

A dance DJ stage formed out of the ruins of an historic old mansion house has been added to the five music stages already on offer at Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival (August 7th & 8th; Beauly, Inverness-shire).

Called ‘Mother’s Ruin’, the stage will feature dance music until 2300, after which it will switch to DJ’d ambient soundtrack with supporting Video Jockey graphics from Evanton-based Arts In Motion.

Grants from EventScotland and Highland Council have enabled the stage to be created from what were the last remaining ruins of Belladrum House whose old footprint forms part of the festival site. The rest of the house was pulled down in 1957 by the grandfather of the festival co-promoter Joe Gibbs.

Previously, the ruins had been closed off from festival use due to the danger of the structure. Now they have been consolidated by Ullapool stonemason Craig Neate – brother of well-known musician Andy Neate – into a beautiful structure that will form an integral part of the festival.

Performing on the stage will be acts such as: Dolphin Boy; Technocelt; Alex Tronic; Araya; Esko; Robbie Dunsmore; Plexus; Butterscotch; Joystick Discotheque; Look Mum It’s The DJs; Clin Gregory and Frog Goes ERP.
