Jones gearing up for Ennis rematch

    AVIVA British Grand Prix

Multi-event star Jessica Ennis is set for an unmissable rematch with world indoor hurdles champion Lolo Jones at the Aviva International Match in Glasgow next month.

The pair will go head-to-head over 60m hurdles at Kelvin Hall, ISA on 29 January, in a repeat of last year’s match-up in which Ennis came from behind to beat the world number one hurdles specialist in a time of 7.95secs, which was a new British record.

Last year’s contest  kick-started both athletes to memorable seasons, with Jones securing her second consecutive World Championships indoor gold in Doha in March and Ennis adding European heptathlon and World Indoor pentathlon victories to her existing World Championship title.

The Aviva International Match will be the first of two indoor Aviva Series head to heads for the duo, with them both lining up just a month later at the Aviva Grand Prix in Birmingham’s NIA on 19 February.

The competition in Glasgow will be only the third meeting for the pair, with scores currently tied at one a-piece; and 28-year-old Jones admits she is relishing the prospect of a rematch with Ennis and future return to Birmingham, the training base for the US track and field team ahead of the Olympics in 2012.

FARAH AND THOMPSON WILL LEAD BRITISH CHALLENGE FOR HONOURS AT BUPA GREAT EDINBURGH CROSS COUNTRY

    BUPA Great Edinburgh Cross Country

After their best ever track seasons, champion runners, Mo Farah and Chris Thompson will switch their attention to winter campaigns at the start of 2011, beginning with the  Bupa Great Edinburgh Cross Country on 8 January.

Farah, who was crowned European Championships 5000m and 10000m gold medallist in August, and Thompson, who was runner up in the 10,000m, will lead the British team in the Men's International Team Challenge in Holyrood Park.

Their appearances for the Great Britain and Northern Ireland senior teams will see them compete in a high calibre competition against exceptionally talented United States and European Select squads.

Dathan Ritzenhein, the world half marathon bronze medallist and reigning US national cross country champion, heads his country's pursuit of honours.  Ukraine's Sergey Lebid, who clinched a ninth European Cross Country title last weekend, will captain the continental squad.

This year the Bupa Great Edinburgh Cross Country introduced the concept of a team challenge under IAAF rules with nine runners competing and the side with the lowest overall score from its first six finishers declared the winners, has been widely welcomed by all of the participating contingents who have selected very strong squads for the first ever staging of Men's International Team Challenge.
