Royal Highland Show Attracts 183,000 Visitors

    Royal Highland Show

Almost 183,000 visitors attended the 2011 Royal Highland Show - the second highest attendance in the history of the event.

The exact figure after the four day run which ended on Sunday (June 26) was 182,984. Daily attendances were: Thursday 41,269, Friday 47,784, Saturday 53,134; and Sunday 40,797.

Show Manager David Dunsmuir commented:  “We are absolutely delighted with these figures considering there were so many other prominent events over the weekend in Edinburgh. In addition to our core audience, we had many other first-time visitors who were obviously attracted by the variety of features on offer - everything to do with farming, food and countryside and lots more.

“Exhibitors across all categories confirmed that the level of spend at the show was better than experienced at other similar events. We made a special effort this year on business to business promotion and that seems to have paid off.”

The three-year average attendance now stands at just over 182,000. The highest attendance was achieved last year with 187,644 visitors.

The 2012 Royal Highland Show - major sponsor The Royal Bank of Scotland – will take place at the Royal Highland Centre, Ingliston, Edinburgh, on June 21-24.

T in the Park audience gets active

T Dance at T in the Park

Yesterday’s T in the Park audience got ‘active’ onsite as they took part in the T-Dance – a fun dance routine which took place at 3pm on the festival’s Main Stage.

The 80’s retro-style mass participation dance routine was part of the year of Active Scotland event programme, supported by EventScotland. The dance routine was hosted by dancers Vince Virr (of Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake) and Jade Adamson (of Barrowland Ballet) live on stage, and guided the Main Stage crowd through the dance moves.

Paul Bush OBE, EventScotland Chief Operating Officer said: “It was fantastic to see T in the Park, one of Scotland’s biggest events, embracing the values of the year of Active Scotland by promoting the benefits of an energetic and healthy lifestyle. The T-Dance was a unique and spontaneous way to encourage and inspire festival-goers, and the people of Scotland and its visitors to get active. T in the Park is a fantastic example of why Scotland is the perfect stage for the biggest and best active events.”

The T-Dance was to none other than 80’s hip-hop floor filler ‘Push It’ by Salt-N-Pepa. The routine was choreographed by Barrowland Ballet’s Natasha Gilmore who has danced and devised for The Institute of Crazy Dancing and BBC’s The Big Dance Class, has choreographed music videos for Basement Jaxx and is a former Artist in Residence at Dance House, Glasgow.
