The Bruce Festival opened on 19th August to a sell out concert in Dunfermline Abbey, dramatic performances of Robert the Bruce’s life and a stunning Son et Lumiere expected to be visible for miles around. Meanwhile, the Dougie McLean concert, which opens the Festival, has attracted visitors from as far away as Canada.

The programme bursts into full swing on the opening weekend with three exciting concerts in the Abbey, a costumed theatrical storytelling of Bruce’s life and tours of the Abbey. On the 24th, audiences are invited to join pupils of Queen Anne High School in a thrilling debate against pupils of Stewarts Melville College, Edinburgh on the theme, ‘Robert Bruce had no right to sit on the throne of Scotland', chaired by local Dunfermline girl Dr Fiona Watson, writer, broadcaster and senior lecturer.

Fiona will also present a talk and debate later in the week on the impact and meaning of Mel Gibson's epic 1996 film. 'Braveheart: more than just pulp fiction'.

The festival rounds off in Pittencrieff Park where the whole family can enjoy battles, hand to hand combat, archery and a medieval hospital.

One Month until the Park World Tour

    Park World Tour 2010

It is now just over one month until the beginning of the Park World Tour event held in Perth, Scotland. The tour is shaping up to be a great weekend of international racing with top names including Daniel Hubman (World Champion) and Fabian Hertner (European Champion).

The races are open to all and the top fifteen competitors in each of the Men’s and Women’s races (excluding the International runners) will be able to qualify for the Park World Tour final. Don’t worry if you fail to qualify though, the courses will be open directly after the final so anyone can compete and compare times with the World’s best.  There will also be a re-run of the Scone Palace event on the Saturday morning for those who can’t make the Friday qualification event. However, only participants who run the Friday are eligible to qualify for the PWT Final.

If you are a national team runner and are interested in competing at the PWT in Scotland, please contact Ewan McCarthy (ewanmccarthy@gmail.com). The event will cover costs (accommodation, food, banquet, entry and transport in Scotland) for thirty International runners.
