EventScotland, the national events agency, is set to fund the 2010 North Atlantic Fiddle Convention in the city of Aberdeen and North East Scotland.  The event takes place from 14 - 18 July and funding will support the introduction of a Family Festival Club, website development and a PR campaign to raise awareness of the event across the UK.

The North Atlantic Fiddle Convention takes place biennially and is a celebration of excellence in Scottish fiddling, plus the many styles of fiddle playing and associated dance traditions that exist around the North Atlantic, particularly in Scandinavia, North America, Ireland, and elsewhere in the UK.

Paul Bush OBE, Chief Operating Officer at EventScotland, the national events agency, said:  “The North Atlantic Fiddle Convention will be one of the musical highlights of 2010 and will attract thousands of traditional music lovers to the north east of Scotland.  This will be the second time that EventScotland has supported the Convention and funding will be used to increase visitors to the area and to support the introduction of a new element for families: the Family Festival Club.
