EventScotland, the national events agency, is set to fund Scotland’s Festival of History with £7K of funding in support of a marketing campaign to target visitors from outwith Lanarkshire.  Scotland’s Festival of History is the largest re-enactment event in Northern Britain attracting more than 500 participants from around Europe each year.

The festival will take place from August 21 to 22 at Lanark Racecourse and takes the visitor through 2000 years of  history, from the Romans to WW2. Attractions range from battle re-enactments and working demonstrations of a siege engine, Roman artillery and cannons, to long bow archery, falconry, a large colourful tented medieval market and specialist circus skills workshops for children.

Paul Bush OBE, Chief Operating Officer at EventScotland, said: “Scotland has a rich and colourful history and Scotland’s Festival of History is a fantastic cultural event which utilises and celebrates that history, bringing it alive for thousands of visitors each year.  Lanark itself is a historical hub and this event promotes its unique assets."
