EventScotland and the Scottish Government today announced that they are to fund five events in Loch Lomond and the Forth Valley as part of the Games for Scotland initiative.

Commonwealth Games Celebrations, October Holiday Activity programme, Gold Medal Standard, Indian Dance & Scottish Dance Residencies and Stirling’s Commonwealth Games Handover Celebrations will receive funding through the Games for Scotland events programme. The Scottish Government initiative, which is being delivered by EventScotland, has been designed to engage communities throughout Scotland in the lead up to the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and raise awareness of the Handover Ceremony taking place during the Closing Ceremony of this year’s Delhi Commonwealth Games.

The Handover Ceremony, which will feature a 346 strong cast, comprising artists and dancers from across Scotland, marks the beginning of a four-year journey that will culminate in Glasgow’s hosting of the Commonwealth Games in 2014 - the biggest sporting event ever to take place on Scottish soil.

The Loch Lomond and Forth Valley events will take place in early October and will give local communities the opportunity to unite and take pride in Scotland’s role as host of the 20th Commonwealth Games.

With programmes consisting of dance performances, sports demonstrations and a host of other participatory activities there are many ways for local communities to get involved in what promises to be a landmark day on the road to Glasgow 2014.
