City charged for Super September

  • Super September of Sport

Super September is here! The time when Edinburgh will welcome thousands of competitors and spectators for three major international sporting events.

The GE Edinburgh ITU Duathlon World Championships will kick off this special month, welcoming 1,000 of the world's best Elite and Age Group competitors to Edinburgh's Holyrood Park from 3-5 September to compete for six World Championship titles, twenty seven Age Group gold medals and a total prize fund of 75,000 Euros (for the Elite competition).  With a home advantage, Scotland internationalist and Broxburn local Catriona Morrison will be setting her sights on victory in the women's section, after achieving previous success winning the 2007 and 2009 European Championships.

Next on the calendar is the IFSC World Youth Championships, at the Edinburgh International Climbing Arena (EICA), Ratho from 9-12 September. This will attract the world's best young climbers from over 50 different countries for four days of competition. The championships will involve over 300 competitors from international governing bodies, bringing their families and supporters to the Edinburgh to enjoy the top level competition and the sights and sounds of the city.

Last but not least, East Princes Street Gardens will be transformed into an archery arena for the FITA Archery World Cup Final on the weekend of 18-19 September.  Edinburgh is the first UK city to host the Archery World Cup Final, the biggest and most important archery competition ever to be seen in the UK.  It is the culmination of four World Cup qualifying events when the best 32 archers in the World (top 16 men and 16 women) bring the skill and tension of knockout archery matches (two competitors going head to head) into the very heart of Scotland's capital city for two days of exciting competition.

Never before has Edinburgh held three major sporting events in one month and it demonstrates the ever-growing attraction of the city for international events.  With all three events being televised worldwide to up to 250 million viewers, it showcases Edinburgh and Scotland as the perfect stage for the world's biggest and best sporting events.
