Investing in Golf

“If you win in Scotland, The Home of Golf, it is always extra special. I really enjoyed the week here and the way that the fans got behind me - they were amazing.” Martin Kaymer, Winner of the 2009 Barclays Scottish Open.

Scotland is ‘The Home of Golf’ and as such is uniquely placed to host major world class tournaments and competitions. Since our inception, EventScotland continues to work to strengthen Scotland’s reputation as the world’s foremost golfing destination through strategic support and development of golf events.

From The Old Course, which hosted the 150th anniversary of The Open Championship in St Andrews on the spectacular Fife coastline, to Gleneagles in scenic Perthshire, the host venue for The 2014 Ryder Cup, Scotland is home to more than 550 golf courses and offers Championship courses to hidden gems across the length and breadth of the country from professionals and amateurs alike to enjoy.

Since 2005, and as part of an Associate agreement with the Royal and Ancient, EventScotland with its partners in VisitScotland and Scottish Enterprise, annually invest in The Open Championship to showcase Scottish golf on the world stage.  The Open Championship provides a significant contribution to the Scottish economy when it is held here (five out of the nine Open Championship venues are in Scotland) and, in 2007, the Open Championship generated an economic impact of £26.7 million, attracted 133,000 spectators and was broadcast in 163 territories across the world.

And in the years leading up to the Ryder Cup in 2014, EventScotland are committed to providing a platform which will continue to develop the game at all levels in Scotland, promote the country to a global audience and showcase our ability to deliver world-class golf tournaments.

In 2012, Scotland will welcome the Curtis Cup to Nairn Golf Club while the Senior Open Championship will be contested at Turnberry. The Scottish Open returns to Castle Stuart for the second year, while the Johnnie Walker Championship will be played on the newly changed PGA Centenary Course at Gleneagles.
