"British Gymnastics is very excited about bidding for the 2015 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships and the city of Glasgow and its new National Arena would be the ideal venue for this event.

“The high standard of the competition and training facilities and first class accommodation Scotland has to offer would provide a perfect setting for a world class championships and give athletes striving for qualification into the 2016 Olympic Games the best opportunity for success," Jane Allen, Chief Executive Officer for British Gymnastics.

Gymnastics is a key priority sport for Glasgow in the run up the 2014 Commonwealth Games. The sport attracts impressive international broadcast, which showcases Scotland’s fantastic facilities and venues.

EventScotland has supported the International Gymnastics Grand Prix since 2005 and the event is now a key part of Scotland’s gymnastics portfolio and formed part of the 2014 Commonwealth Games bid, demonstrating commitment to the sport. The event will take up residence in the new The National Arena Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre, once complete, making it one of the first events to benefit from new Commonwealth Games infrastructure.

In 2007, due to the success of the International Gymnastics Grand Prix, Glasgow was approached to host the World Acrobatics Gymnastics Championships by the International federation (FIG). With EventScotland’s support and investment, this event further established Scotland as a world class destination for gymnastics.

Starting in 2011, Glasgow will be one of four hosts to stage the new World Cup competition. With the support of EventScotland and taking place in April in the Kelvin Hall International Sports Arena, the top 8 male and female athletes will compete.

In May 2011 it was announced that Glasgow was selected as the host city for the 2015 World Artistic Gymnastic Championships, bringing the event to Scotland for the first time.
